Flint Hill School Reviews

Our children have attended FHS for the past 9 years. The lower school has, in our experience, always created a very positive and consistent learning environment.

I ve attended both Flint Hill Upper School and Oakton High School (two years at each), and can say without hesitation that FHS is a far better learning atmosphere. Although most of the statements below are at least partly true, those problems seem minuscule in comparison to the ones found at surrounding schools. Flint Hill is definitely worth a visit.

For the really bright student, the quality of the academics is only challenging in the amount of work and the pressure, not in the depth of learning. Teacher quality is radically uneven, from inspiring to barely competant. At the present, the administration and board of trustees appear to be more concerned with expanding the school, and in particular the athletic program, than with what is in the best interests of the students. Extracurriculars are mainly geared to athletics with afterschool sports required for two years which greatly reduces students' opportunities to participate in non-athletic afterschool pursuits. Definately not a school for students who think outside the box; comformity is encouraged and rewarded, individuaity derided.
