Stevens Elementary School Reviews

This is a wonderful school. My daughter is about to enter her second year, going to kindergarden and I am very excited. I was amazed at how much she learned in pre-k. I was not expecting for so much to be taught in a per-k class, but it was great seeing the transformation from the beginning of the school year to the end in my daughter. I can't say enough about her teacher, Ms. Curtis-Wilson. She was the best. It was nice to see a teacher soo into her kids. She also included the parents in all activities going on with her students. This school is amazing.

My son, a 'first honors student', is finishing the 3rd grade this year at Stevens Elementary School. He has been a student at Stevens since Pre-K. I am extremely pleased with the teachers and the administration. The small class sizes along with the excellent and dedicated teachers make Stevens a 'no-brainer' for parents who want private school quality in a public school. Academic programs are excellent. There are incentives for academic achievement and good behavior. And the annual 'International Day' Program, usually held in May, really emphasizes the school's diversity and allows children to be exposed to other cultures throughout the year as classes are assigned a country to study throughout the year in preparation for the big event in May. Parents and the PTA are very active at Stevens as many of the parents work nearby in downtown DC. My son and I love Stevens and highly recommend it.

My daughter is in 1st grade; she enrolled at Stevens in Pre-K. I am very pleased with the education she is receiving. The teachers are great and take pride in their classroom and the students they are teaching. I've seen my daughter grow from a shy 4 year-old to a very confident 6 year-old, most of which can be attributed to her pre-K and kindergarten teachers. I am happy with Stevens and am proud that my child is a student there.

Although I am not a parent, I teach music at the Stevens School for free, under an agreement with St Paul's KSt NW as my contribution to Time and Talent. Having taught in many different schools: private, parochial and public I cannot say enough about the Steven's school! Beginning with the P-K every teacher works for excellence in every subject. Everyone in the schools from the custodians to the Principal work for quiet halls, respect for elders, honoring the teaching process, and lots of charity and respect for the student! We work in an old, old building which needs so much work...but...we continue to teach.. and students learn! The parents can be counted to be there for their children for any program we have, even if it's during the day. They DO support us in many ways. Teaching at the Steven's school has been one of the best experiences in my long life.

'My son has been a student at Stevens since he was four years old. We have been blessed with excellent teachers for all three grades. His drama skills have been developed and utilized in various plays held throughout the year and his academics continue to excel, with him being a high honors student. The teachers strive to develop each student using a one-on-one approach. The after school care program for the pre-K and kindergarten students is handled by the respective teachers where the one one-on-one continues in an effort to develop children who may be slightly behind their classmates. Homework assistance is provided to the grades. The principal knows each child and most parents by name, providing a family-oriented atmosphere where communication is expected and encouraged. Thank you Stevens for providing a solid foundation for my son, by giving him the skills necessary to succeed!' 'Volunteer or contribute to Stevens!'

When I went to Stevens I felt safe. I am happy that I went there. They gave me information that prepared me for junior high. Now that I am in my last year of high school I still remember how the teacher made me stay after class if I didn't understand something.
