Peabody Elementary School Reviews

I had been a parent of a Peabody student from 2003 - 2006 and currently of a 4 year old starting Pre-K this school year. The family of Peabody has (and is educating) educated all four of my children well. The teachers, the administrators, the teacher's aides, staff, even parents, they all contribute to the education of all the children at the school; no one is left behind. This is a great school, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who asks!

I have a son in Kindergarden and one has gone through this school and is at watkins. The teachers are wonderful . He has homework but not to much , all the staff really care about each child.I will greatly miss this school when my child leaves next year.

This school hosts two different programs, the Regio Emelio/arts based program or SWS & the 'traditional' or 'downstairs' program. My child is a student in the traditional, literacy based program. My child is flourishing in this program and at the age of 4, tries to sound out & spell words. Another aspect I like is that the teacher stays with the class from pre-k to kindergarden. At a parent-teacher conference, her teacher discussed her progress and noted that she was high preforming. I was impressed that instead of leaving it at that, her teacher said she and her aid would work individually with my child to continue her growth (I was afraid that they would ignore her since she was already up to standards). I like the fact that my child's teacher is familiar with her strengths & weakness and will be with her next year to continue her growth.

Not very impressive for a school that is only for PreK-K. The amount of homework was ridiculous. The focus of school work seemed to be more geared towards passing the standarized tests.

My son is currently attending Peabody PreK. I couldn't ask for a better evironment. They have been on 4 field trips already with many more planned. His behavior and desire to learn has grown in leaps and bounds already. I highly recommend this school to anyone who is lucky enought to be able to come. The staff and teachers really care. You can see that all the children enjoy coming. The area around the school is a very desireable area as well. Nestled among parks and walking distance to the capital. Love this school so far!

I have a kindergartener at Peabody & I am very disappointed in the lack of education being taught. I chose this school because of the various commentaries I heard and read, but I am quickly realizing that most of those conversations came from either the Montessori Programs @ Watkins or the School W/N School Program. Parents beware! I wanted my child to be in a diverse atmosphere, but the interaction is very low. There are several teachers within the building that are excellent and others who have a great personality but should not be teaching children as young as these. I am disgusted with the level of education my child has received this year & my child will not be attending Watkins. The reputation of the school exceeds the truth. Go to the school, look in all the classrooms, & check the test scores for Watkins & Stuart Hobson.

I enrolled my daughter at Peabody for Pre-Kindergarten last year 2004-2005 when Ms. Smith was the principal. I loved hoe she knew all the children names, not only at Peabody, but Watkins, and Stewart H. I had lots of trouble with one of the Asst. Principles about my childs Asthma, and medical reasons for absences. She always gave me a hard time when my child was sick, stating my child asthma was no differ than the other ashmatic children. This really made me angry, and I am still going through it today! I will not send my daughter to Watkins so I will not have to be bothered defending her sickness anymore. Those who have sickly children Beware! As a single parent mom on metro transportation I did my best with doctors appt. Rules need to be changed for sickly Children who are trying to go to school.

All three of my kids have gone through this school and into Watkins, and we love it here. Having a dedicated pre-k and k campus is great. The teachers are all wonderful, and the emphasis on early reading is a great thing. All of my kids were well on their way to being great readers by the time they entered 1st grade at Watkins. We love this school and the community. My kids all had a good amount of homework (never seemed like too much, just enough to make them feel 'big') and I was surprised to read that someone else's kids learned songs one whole month and watched movies. I've never heard of that at atll.

My child started Peabody 02-03 in Pre-K....The teachers are involved in the student's overall achievements...My child brings homework home at least 4 days out of the week....Last year was a rough school year in the Washington DC area due to all the tragedies and weather....This year they are definitely making that portion up...By going on field trips, participating w/ the community in whole...My daughter has always been outspoken... But she knows everyone there and they know her. I love the enviroment the teachers, volunteers, and parents that makes Peabody a great big happy family...

We had such high hopes when we enrolled our Pre-K student in this school. However, after three months we withdrew our child and enrolled him in a great 'private' school. The teacher never gave homework, the students watched movies almost daily and the small amount of classroom work was not stimulating! The entire month of December was devoted to learning Christmas songs. I would think twice before I enrolled a child at this school.
