Janney Elementary School Reviews

Janney is a top notch school with great kids, great parents, a great principal and wonderful teachers! It is a terrific place to work!

I am a parent now and living in Vermont but I was a teacher for 2 years at Janney and cannot say enough what a wonderful school it is. If we were ever to move back, this is the neighborhood we would move to because of the principal, the families and the top notch teachers.

Have two children there, grades 2 and 5, both since they were in pre-K. Strong faculty, very engaged and active principal, fantastic and energetic parent community. Our children are thriving and we only wish it went to grade 8! Safe, nurturing, challenging, with a very strong atmosphere of tolerance and respect. The mentoring is built in (such programs as 'book buddies') that develop strong bonds between older and younger students, and the general atmosphere is very supportive and antithetical to cliques and bullying. So popular that it goes against the grain in this town where too many people opt out of public education for private schools; in contrast, Janney has very little space available for kids not in the neighborhood. Wonderful traditions, too, and many opportunities used to explore Washington's cultural setting.

We moved into AU park in November 2005 and my daughter started kindergarten at Janney. Understanding that being a latecomer can be difficult, the teachers and principal went out of their way to make a smooth transition for my daughter and for me. My daughter is thriving and I'm very pleased with the teacher, the principal and the unbelievably active parents.

Parent involvement is greater than any place I've seen. Fantastic new principal in 2004-05. Strong teachers, warm community feel. Parents committed to funding extracuric. despite DC Public School's weak support for these programs. Overwhelming at first to both parents and kids, if you can spare a little time to get involved in the school, you'll quickly meet interesting folks from all walks who care about their kids, their city, and education in general.

My kid started k grade this year and he loves it. The school is great, the comunnity is pretty active. The school has won the blue ribbon award. GREAT!

I have been stationed all over the world and my kids have been in several schools; this is far the best one they have enjoyed. He enjoys the teachers and is learning quite a bit. The interaction is great--I would recommend.
