Wood Acres Elementary School Reviews

My son joined this school as a new third grader and loved it from the very first day. The staff went out of their way to make sure we settled nicely. Mrs Sherburne the principal is awesome! She connects with both children and parents and whenever I'm at the school, I see her up and about ... always actively engaged and best of all, our son's third grade teacher, Ms Crabtree is just wonderful! Altogether its a great school. It also has a very active PTA - I haven't been too involved in that but I'm kept updated through regular emails.

I agree totally with the parent that wrote about the lack of diversity. I have a 3rd grader that is the only African-American child in her entire class. She has no peers and no role models. Further, I have noticed that her new teacher is not very well experienced and is woefully insensitive with regards to diversity and differing perspectives. I see that my child's skill set has not been appropriately evaluated and that she is suffering through the same old material over and over agian. Moreover, the class size is entirely too large. For small children, the amount of distraction and overload caused by nearly 30 children in these classrooms has got to be harmful to them. I moved to this school because I was told that it was one of the better schools in Montgomery County but I am woefully disappointed.

This school has gone down hill in the last four years. Parents have become disgruntled and from what i hear, the staff is disillusioned. It seems there is no leadership here, one more year for me and my youngest will move on to middle school. Many good teachers have left recently and it's a shame.
