Potomac High School Reviews

I personally enjoyed my tenure at Potomac High School. Prince George's County Schools aren't the best, and certainly are not the worst public school in the district. I graduated in 2007, and as i walked that stage I felt prepared to continue with my life. Well I attended Potomac I can honestly say it's what you make of it. I got tired of coming to school looking at my fellow peers quick to call there parents when they felt as if they were treated wrong. Mommy and daddy, and sometimes grand-parents will not always be there. School and like life....'it's what you make of it.' So parents please remember that it starts at home.

My grandson attends this school and what I hear regarding the student-teacher relationship is at a bottom level. The Security Staff handles and talks to the young adults as if they were in jail vs school. I'm not sure all of the teacher staff members can really handle the stressful problems that arise in class. Principal -who is that - is she at the school?

We all want to think that our children are getting the best education possible and we must take responbility for there actions. But as a parent of a child who attends Potomac HS I think the school has it's advantages and disadvantage like any other place. The teachers and staff rarely return calls and the children are talked to at times like prejudge criminals on the street. (This I have witnessed several times due to me popping up at the school for different reason). The principal is hardly available due to her being absent and the administrative staff only offers there full support in the presence of the parents to present the imagine of full support of the students and there education. Above all I think the school should be secretly evaluated by the School Board to see how the the students and teachers really enter act with each other.

This school has done its best in activating the children's minds. However, i still think it can do better in all areas. All schools have their share of bad students and inexperienced teachers, but if you want an education then you'll get it.

I have two twin daughters that attend Potomac high school and I have to disagree with everyone. I think Potomac is a good school that needs some help just like every other school in Prince Geroges County. Of course you have your bad students and those few teachers that don't care but if I can say anything the staff is there waiting for us to push our children. We can't expect the teachers to do everything and we don't do our part. When we become responsible for our actions then maybe the students will become better students and maybe the teachers will show more affection. Maria Spinner

I am a prouudt of Potomac and I know the teachers have done a wonderful job in educating those students that Want to learn. Potomac is one of PG's finest school and I would recomend it to any one.

Many people complain about the quality of Potomac but I attended here and teachers are only doing what that can with what they have. There sports seem to be the only thing good for the school and security seems to have trouble maintaining control over the students. The teachers shouldn't be blamed for the lack of quality in the school but the students should be accountable for their own actions. The guidance department is one area that needs severe improvement.

This school is horrible. Each year, children are not in the rightful classes. Then it is not determined until the end of sememster. The systems are always down, counselors don't return phone calls or know any relvant information pretaining to the students. I have never seen such incumbetent administration.

This school is one of the worst schools by far. The teacher's don't care, some of the students don't care and the prinicipal is not right herself. You have more kids roaming the halls then in the classrooms. I think uniforms is a most and should implemented ASAP. Because there are no Charter Schools in P.G. County, parents should have a choice as to where their child should go, if they think the neighborhood school is not right for their child.

This school is horrible. No call backs. Please assist with potomac high school otherwise our kids will be going to the birds.

I think the school is terrible, my son's attitude and total disposition about school has changed. I believe the teachers really do not care and play too much with the students. Educators lets get back to educating our children. Also uniform is a must Potomac is the only H.S. In the region that hasn't adopted uniform's.

The parent involvement at Potomac is the worst that I've ever seen. In the beginning of last school year, I signed up for PTA and my check was never cashed and I was never contacted regarding PTA meetings, etc. My daughter attended Potomac for 9th and 10th grade and I noticed my daughter's behaviour and attitude change for the worse. She was very unhappy and was not happy with the quality of teachers. Some of the teachers there are good teachers but I noticed that most of the students there just don't care about learning and it seems as though their parents are not involved in their child's life nor future. My daughter has been accepted at Crossland's technical program.

My daughter attended this school several years ago and she would always tell me how bad things were here. September 2004 was my son's first year at Potomac High School and all throughout the school year I noticed a change for the worst in my son's attitued and disposition. Occassionally I had to stop by the school and I was appalled by the student's attitudes and dress. My son has not been the best student academically, and I knew from this obersavation that this would not be of any encouragement to him. I think this is one school that should definitely have UNIFORMS. Also, my husband and I both called the school several times, left messges, and never had a returned phone call. At the end of the school session, one teacher called to discuss my son's grades and performance. Well, with some things timing means everything.

The teachers are good but can't say the same for many of the students. Not the best school to give you kids an education in. Aviod it, if can.
