George Washington Middle School Reviews

My son really had a hard time at GW. There is a lot of violence and bullying. Many of the teachers are good which is why I gave the school two stars. However, the administration has lost control over the students. After my son was punched in the face, one administrator said 'boys will be boys.'

I have taught in many different counties and states along the east coast, and I must say that G.W. is one of the most supportive schools I have ever encountered. Our child's experience at G.W. has been fantastic. The staff is wonderful and helpfull, and actually care about each individual student. In speaking with the staff, students dont get extra credit for going to class! Our family hasnt experienced anything like the parent in the last posting, and frankly find it hard to believe.

If your student is not in the TAG curriculum he or she is in a class that is below the national average. That is substandard. The teachers are doing their best (for the most part) to teach to children with ranging ability, but are falling short because they are spending much of their time and energy with students who are disruptive, disrespectful and under echieving. On multiple occasions my son has reported that he was the only one who worked on a group project- and that some students get' extra credit' for coming to class! I am disapointed.

Our child is in her third year and has had a fantastic experience at GWMS, especially in the band. The music program at this school is excellent and enjoys two wonderful teachers who hold the students to a very high standard and a highly-supportive parent booster group. We have been more than satisfied with the school's academics, extra-curricular activities, and personal attention to our child, The school is not perfect, but many improvements have been made and are on-going.

I am really apalled that this school recieves so much positive attention. My child is at TC now, but as a GW student he was constantly complaining about the teachers and I had to confront them several times. When I walked through the halls on one occasion I was shocked to see how the students acted like wild animals. There is absolutely no discipline in that school, and I was surprised that the teachers and even principal had done nothing about it. My child was also enrolled in the music program at GW (he played the French Horn). He experienced no enjoyment whatsoever and was always telling me that the band program was not supportive at all and was not enjoyable. I think some major changes need to made before I send any of children to GW again.

I m really pleased with all the attention that the teachers give to the students. It shows how hard this school has been trying to achieve their goals, but most of the students lack behind and their expectations are nowhere close to the schools. I just think this school might improve on student behavoir and dicipline.
